Memo 1.0 -- Why We Changed Our Name

Memo 1.0 -- Why We Changed Our Name

by London Glorfield

Hey,

This is London, co-founder and CEO of KICKBACK. I'm stoked to announce that I'll be starting a weekly "memo" to give those of you who are interested a deeper look into everything we're working on, thinking about, and designing. It's also a great way for me to organize and really think through my own thoughts. :)

And what better way to kick off these memos than by explaining why we're changing our name from 90sTimeMachine to KICKBACK (!!!).

When we started this brand less than a year ago, our vision was tiny—it was just a side project we didn't think much about. After pouring a ton of time into it, our vision has grown way beyond "90s tech." Now, KICKBACK aims to make consumer technology wonderfully creative and vibrant again. We're building tech products that you can truly love to own, not simply have to own.

While much of our design language is still inspired by retro technology, and we'll continue to release nostalgic tech when it feels right (like our newest product, the DISCMAN), our ultimate goal is to leave our mark on everyday tech products. We want to transform them into something we believe is more representative of our generation.

OUR NEW FONTS / COLORS / ICON

All to say, this is why we're changing our name. We don't want to be tied to a a specific decade.

If you found us through our original 90sTimeMachine products, it means you're super early. We're incredibly grateful for the support you've shown us while we figure things out. Building a new tech brand is a journey, and you've all been amazing.

We truly cannot wait for this new chapter to begin.

Signing off,

London
