The Ultimate Luxury Is Living Offline

The ultimate luxury is living offline. That's the theme. That's the manifesto.
I've grown up glued to my phone—as has my entire generation. It was once an exciting and novel way to connect with friends and showcase life. But now, it's become an extremely addictive void of sadness, fakery, and jealousy. I don't like it… at all.
It's not to say there aren't positives to our lives online; of course there are. The fact that I'm writing this memo on a website I built for a brand idea I had, and I was able to do so with effectively no money, is incredible. The internet has diminished all barriers to entry, which has led to an abundance of creativity, expression, and art. So this memo isn't "anti-online"—it's really anti-living 24/7 glued to my phone and doomscrolling for hours a day. Fuck that.
It's become clear as day that we're building KICKBACK to be the alternative to that reality. We want to build electronics that actually allow you to unplug. I recognize "electronics" and "unplugging" is a juxtaposition, so let me explain: we want to create insanely cool, simple, and "limited" technology. We want to create products that enhance your real life, not take away from it. I know I'm being a bit vague, as I don't want to give away everything we're working on… but man, I am so excited. We're building a family of products that will allow you to seamlessly disconnect from 24/7 addiction and life online—products that celebrate real life.
We're working tirelessly to bring this reality to life—it's a big vision and will take time. But I'm dedicating everything to this. I firmly believe that when the world moves so strongly in one direction (hyper-online), there's always going to be a powerful counterpunch. Some of you may want to live in a completely virtual world where you're talking to AI friends and celebrities, etc.. Fine. However, that's not the reality or world I desire, so I'm going in the other direction and building KICKBACK for anybody who wants to join me.

Anyways, that’s the memo.
